PHOTOGRAPHY 200
NEW MEXICO (1827 – 2027)

Celebrating two centuries of innovation

PHOTOGRAPHY 200 NEW MEXICO is a statewide initiative, led by the Advisory Committee, highlighting the history, practice, and future of this important medium in our state, a destination for photographic innovation over the last two centuries. This series of programs commemorates the 200th anniversary of the first surviving photograph, created in France in 1827 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce (French, 1765–1833). Honoring photography’s enduring influence on culture, creativity, and society, the year-long celebration includes exhibitions, lectures, and workshops at a growing number of art institutions and prominent photography galleries across Santa Fe. Photography 200 New Mexico invites partners across the state to present public-facing programs throughout 2027.
